What is the attraction in Spain?
Basking in the sun rays this majestic country spreads its magic charm far and wide. Known to be different from any other country in Europe, Spain with its majestic mountains, mesmerising beaches and romantic getaways is a tourists' dream destination. Steeped in culture, with colourful flamenco dancers and bull fighters this country is certainly paradise on earth. Dotted with lush green landscape, pristine blue waters, glittering silver beaches with a canopy of the yellow sun, Spain surely is out from the artist's palate.Spain is considered to be one of the largest kingdoms of southern Europe, surrounded by the blue Mediterranean waters in the south and the east, the Bay of Biscay to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Situated in a rather strategic position, Spain shares its borders with France, Morocco, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra.
The origin of the Spanish people dates back to about 35000 years ago. The Greeks were the first to set up colonies along the Mediterranean which were later taken over by the Romans who continued to exercise control over the area for the next 500 years. Spain flourished during this period in the field of economy, culture and religion. However, the Peninsular was taken over by Islam which reigned in the region for the next 800 years. 1492 brought in a new dawn for Spain with the defeat of Islam followed by the Jews and the emergence of Christopher Columbus, thus opening a new era for Spain, known as the 'Golden Era.' Blackened by the Spanish War of Independence,' the country went through a lot of political and economic turmoil to emerge as a strong political and economic power.
What is the attraction in Malaga?
This major tourist attraction, Malaga is its strategic location which gives it an easy access to the Mediterranean Sea. Made famous as the birth place of the great artist, Picasso, Malaga, fascinates tourists with the bright sun towering over swaying palm groves, enlightening museums and boulevards and not to miss the exciting night life
Guarded by the rough rugged mountains the waters of the blue sea dashing against the long white beaches make Malaga one of the major tourist attractions. Nineteenth century Malaga was an important land mark on the map of Spain for the rich and the famous because of its sensuous, scenic beauty. The Calle Alameda drew tourists from far and wide because of its unparallel botanical collections. The castle built by the Moors which was later transformed into a majestic hotel is also a major attraction.
Those who like to take a stroll in the midst of nature, the beautiful Alameda Garden in the centre of the city and just a little away from the main city is the Jardines de la Concepcion.
Malaga also boasts of a number of fruit orchards which grow fruits like oranges, lemons and olives.
Malagans love food and there are rows of restaurants on every street. These restaurants not only serve a variety of dishes but also serve as meeting grounds as people socialize with food and wine. The restaurants serve all meals at a very cheap rate. A very special dish, called 'Pescaito Frito,' which includes small fried fish served with wine is an all time favourite of the local people.
Rightly called 'Costa del golf,' because of the many golf courses in Malaga. While the senior members of the family occupy themselves in playing golf, there are theme parks, arenas for gokarting , pavilions for children and beautiful gardens to play around in. In short, in Malaga, there is something to keep everyone occupied.

The Malagueños are fun loving, cheerful people. Life for them is all about enjoying and spreading happiness. Its strategic location and the interesting history of the country, Malaga is bubbling with activities. The ideal climatic conditions and the relaxed way of life has made this city a hot favourite both with the locales and the tourists alike. Another striking characteristics of the people of Malaga is that they take great pride in their city, not only for its natural beauty but also as a birth place of two great artists, actor Antonio Banderas and painter Pablo Picasso.
Malaga draws tourists from far and near because of the various museums, cathedrals and churches. However, the major tourist attractions are the Alcasaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro which offers a spectacular view of the city. Alcasaba, an Arabic fortress was built in the middle of the 11th century. Next to the main entrance is the ruin of the Roman theatre which dates back to the 2nd century. Some of the materials collected from the ruins were used to build Alcasaba. Avery interesting site is the archeological museum located inside the Alcasaba.
Built in the 14thcentury, the Gibralfaro castle is witness to a siege between the Catholic monarchs and the citizens of Malaga. This hill top castle lends a beautiful view of the city. The Bullfighting Museum exhibits different bullfighting articles along with the history of bullfighting in Malaga and Spain.
Iglesia de Santiago, the church is made famous for its exquisite interiors and for the Baptismal certificate of Pablo Picasso. Another Church, Iglesia de Los Martires was built in 1487 in memory of the martyrs of the city.
Melagas is famous for its long stretches of golden sandy beaches. Take a walk along the rocks and the swaying palm groves to reach the Nerja Beach, which is a favourite angling spot for the locales. At night the beaches warm up with loud music, and feet tapping at the beach pubs.

Malaga, also known as Costa del Sol, a vibrant and colourful city is a pride of Spain, what with tall mountains, the cool Mediterranean breeze dashing against the swaying palms, the brightly coloured orchards and an exciting night life. Malaga has it all. The city is bedecked with spectacular churches and museums, enchanting beaches, a history to be proud of and the citizens with a zest for life.
Plaza Merced, the birth place of the famous painter Pablo Picasso is one of the major attractions of the city. Museums like Museo Picasso Malaga and galleries in the city which showcase the life and works of this famous artist. Another site which enjoys a special position is Teatro Cervantes, which held regular plays of the great artist Antonio Banderas.
Built between 1528 and 1782 Malaga’s Cathedral has a strong Renaissance influence and its intrinsic interior is decorated with mahogany and rose wood. El Parque, a beautiful park holds the most exotic variety of plants and flowers and is areal treat to the eye.
Torremolinos is one of the most beautiful beaches, ideal for a family day out. The long and glittering sandy beaches are a major tourist attraction. The Municipal authorities make a sincere effort to clean and maintain the beaches. The Benajarafe beach offers all sorts of modern amenities like waste bins, telephone booths, first aid, parking service and facilities for water sports.
Malaga is not only made famous by the historical monuments and museums but also boasts of an excellent shopping centre. There are a number of shopping malls and departmental stores like El Corte lngles which attract shoppers from within and outside the city. The stores usually shut down after lunch as it is considered to be siesta time and re open by early evening.
Evening and night life in Malaga
Night life in Malaga can be very exciting. The clubs and the pubs usually welcome guests since morning and are open through out the day. The beach pubs are a all time favourite and revellers dance, drink and dine amidst loud music. The night clubs are active all year round. Apart from the beach pubs there are a number of traditional tapas bars and modern clubs along the city streets. Many Malagans buy their drinks from a city store, enjoy their drinks at the city centre and then warm away their feet at the clubs and pubs.
Weekend excursions
When the going gets tough, its time to take a break,’ far from the madding crowd.’ Take a break to the city of Granada. Enjoy a tour around the Alhambra Palace, and the beautiful monument of Arabic architecture.
Sivelle is famous for its unique historical structures and orange orchards. Every street in this beautiful city reflects the flamboyance its citizens. This ancient city of Cordoba is a seat of ancient Islamic art. The city is regarded as a Heritage site and reflects peaceful co existence of diverse cultures. Situated on a hilltop is the historical city of Ronda. It boasts of the oldest bullring of Spain.
The Rock of Gibraltar is a major tourist attraction. Its fascinating history has impressed tourists of all ages. The rock separates Europe and Africa and is a link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea A special bonanza for shoppers is the city of Gibraltar where one can shop duty free for alcohol and tobacco among other attractive buys. It is easy to pick up souvenirs like porcelain, perfumes, jewellery, silks, leather ware and electrical goods.
Weather
The Malaga weather reflects the spirit of its citizens, bright and sunny smiling down on its people. The summer months are warm and healthy and the temperatures reach up to thirty degrees centigrade. Summer Storms are common but there are hardly any rains during the summer months. During the winter months the temperature goes down to sixteen degrees centigrade but the winters are usually dry.
