It is a very compact experience. Extensive learning but fun. A gear experience with TEFL International and very helpful to find placement

Thailand was a great place and welcoming. Spend four weeks for a TESOL in a new culture was an exciting challenge. Fun at the end and great kids… a wonderful experience

TESOL Course in Arequipa, Peru

A colonial gem nestled in a mystical setting; Arequipa was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Also known as the: “White City,” Arequipa was founded in the early 1500’s and its baroque-mestizo style buildings were built of a locally sourced pearlescent white stone known as sillar. Its appellation: “the White City,” describes a place where the buildings shimmer in the sunlight and dazzle in the cities’ illumination at night. When the lights reflect off of The Plaza de Armas in the evening, the beauty of the moment is hard to forget.

Arequipa is also a place of powerful natural beauty. Three magnificent, dormant volcanoes encircle the city while the Chili River rambles its way through it. The Andes Mountains lie to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. From the Amazon Rainforest and the beaches along the coast to classical Incan cites like Machu Pichu; Peru does not disappoint.

Aficionados consistently rank Peruvian cuisine and wine as amongst the worlds’ best. The indigenous traditions and ingredients combined with European techniques and flavors have resulted in a delicious cuisine unique the world over. Its location amongst fertile volcanic valleys with easy access to the bounty of the Pacific Ocean have made the kitchens of Arequipa particularly famous. In Arequipa, eating well is not a luxury; it’s a way of life.

While Arequipa is Peru’s second largest city and home to much of Peru’s English teaching work, the city has fewer than one million inhabitants. Furthermore, the relaxed atmosphere and friendly local culture make the city feel like a much smaller community. This balance, combined with average daytime temperatures in the mid 70’s throughout the year have made Arequipa a popular and convenient choice in which to study, live and work.

Arequipa showcases the very best that Peru has to offer whether you are a visitor, a student or an English teacher. Arequipa’s further appeal to adventurers, aficionados of food and enthusiasts of architecture and indigenous culture make it a spectacular place in which to create the memories and experiences of a lifetime.

Nightlife
Arequipa’s nightlife has something to satisfy every taste. There are many clubs (known as discotecas) each with a different style of music and atmosphere. From raucous late night discos to more laid-back offerings featuring traditional Andean folk music, Arequipa has something for everyone. San Francisco Street, located near the Plaza de Armas (Main Plaza) is the conveniently located epicenter of fun and nightlife in Arequipa. Peruvian liquors such as Pisco and Anisado are not to be missed.

Transportation
Local taxis in Arequipa cost about $1.00 USD. The cost of living is inexpensive in our city. Local buses cost about 40 U.S. cents to get around town.

Weather
Peru is in the southern hemisphere so the seasons are reversed, December is in summer and June is in winter. However, the climate of Arequipa is one that is warm and rather dry, throughout the year. Arequipa lies alongside the southernmost tip of Peru's Desert Coast and enjoys plenty of sunny weather, with daytime temperatures rarely dipping much below 70 degrees.
