has all the amenities of the modern world too. East Europe has always
attracted tourists due to its clean air, lush countryside and pristine
natural beauty. Poland transports you to a world of medieval Europe as
portrayed in stories and literature.
Settled agricultural people have lived in the area that is now Poland
for the last 7500 years, the Slavic people have been in this territory
for over 1500 years, and the History of Poland as a state covers nearly
a millennium.
What is the attraction?
Near the Baltic Sea, nestled among the lakes and hills, Wejherowo is a
town rich in historic monuments testifying to its long history. It is
also the spiritual capital of the Kaszuby region Further, the town
serves as an ideal starting base to experience the attractions of the
larger seaside cities, namely Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot.
Wejherowo in northern Poland has a population of 47000 people.
Wejherowo will fascinate any one who is close to nature.
The main landmark at the marketplace is the town hall which was built in
1650. Wandering around the marketplace, one can spot a number of sacred
buildings, and of these, the church of St. Leon deserves special
attention. The one located the closest to the town hall is the Holy
Trinity church, and while it dates back to 1643 it has been
reconstructed time and time again, the last time in 1927.
What is in it for you?
This is the most beautiful and atractive tourist region of Poland
because there are many forests, lakes, meadows. Kashubia is actually
known as “the land of a thousand lakes”. There is a lot of fresh and
clean air here , as well as charming valleys and peace, silence. Kaszuby
are often called ” Kaszubian Switzerland”.

department stores as well slocal shops selling handicrafts and local
fresh produce.
Twenty minutes by train will take you to the coastal towns and cities of
Gdynia, Gdańsk, or Sopot – all located along the Baltic Sea. The tricity
attracts tourists due to its beautiful sandy beaches and European
architecture. It also has many cinemas, restaurants, libraries and a
nightlife that will entertain and educate.

On the tourist map
Wejherowo is visited by throngs of pilgrims and tourists and is called
the Holy Mountains or the Jerusalem of Kashubia. The biggest tourist
attraction of Wejherowo is the Calvary of Wejherowo - Sanctuary of The
Passion with a tradition of over 350 years. Located on morainic hills,
the Calvary includes 26 chapels. Under each chapel, there is a handful
of soil from Jerusalem.
The Town Hall is the architectonic landmark of Wejherowo. On the Town
Hall tower, there is a ringing bell founded in 1649 by Jakub Wejher. A
monument to the town’s founder stands in front of the Town Hall. There
is a model of the town’s historical centre, open for the public in the
Town Hall’s room of tradition and history.
One of the oldest historical sights of the town is the St Anna’s
Monasterial Church of Franciscan Friars.
The Collegiate Church was constructed by Jakub Wejher in the years 1643
- 1644. The church is a fine example of late-baroque altars, a rococo
pulpit, a baptismal font and a wrought iron chandelier with the Polish
eagle (18th c.), as well as rich stained glass windows. The Collegiate
Church functions also as a concert hall, where artists, choir groups and
orchestras with religious-cultural programs give performances, and where
organ concerts are held.
Located in the municipal park is the Palace of the Przebendowski and
Keyserlingk families - seat of Pomeranian Literature and Music. The
palace presents its neo-Gothic style with distinct elements of the
Renaissance. The wall paintings discovered during a renovation of the
palace are the most unusual attraction for tourists and a riddle for art
historians. They are in the Pompeian painting style and depict the
charms of nature and architecture of Italy. All rooms of the palace are
covered with polychromy of high artistic value.
Weekend trips
Wejherowo is strategically placed in the vicinity of Gdansk, Gdynia and
Sopot, three beautiful cities called "TriCity", located on the shore of
the Baltic Sea. The most popular seaside resort is probably Sopot, with
its longest wooden pier and busy main pedestrian mall. The sea and a
great number of sports and cultural events make the TriCity a tourist
destination. It lies 20 km from Gdynia with its ferry harbour, 30 km
from the seaside resorts of Jastrzebia Gora and Karwia, and 40 km from
Gdansk airport. Getting to Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot poses no problem
since Wejherowo is linked by the SKM (fast suburban railway line) and,
in addition, by a highway to Gdansk and Sopot.
Ołowianka is an island in Gdańsk flanked by the Motława river and the
Stępka Channel.
The Oliwa Park is an oasis of beauty and silence in the centre of the
city and an ideal place to regain one’s inner balance and the peace of
mind.
It was modelled on the examples of the Baroque French garden art. The
value of this park is exceptionally high since very rare plants and
flowers coming from almost all continents can be seen here.
The Cleveland Main Lighthouse is one of the most beautiful lighthouses.
However why it has been modeled after the Cleveland lighthouse is still
an enigma.
At present the zoological garden in Gdańsk is the biggest zoo in Poland.
It is one of the most attractive places for both recreation and
education and the garden within the premises is a great place to relax..
The EXPERYMENT Science Centre -- one of the first such ventures in
Poland -- is a modern scientific and educational playground for amateur
explorers and the "learning through fun" philosophy followers of all
ages.
Connectivity
Gdansk has an international airport. The country’s capital, Warsaw is
connected internationally. From Gdansk to Wejherowo on the train takes
about 40 minutes and the intercity express trains are fast and regular.
By our standards, prices, especially on the buses, are low and
travelling on a local bus is a really relaxing way to see the
countryside.
